Charcoal is all the rage these days when it comes to health and wellness trends. You can find it in supplements, toothpaste, scalp treatments, face wash, and body wash. It is known for being a detoxifier when taken in supplement form. There is a lot of science to support the fact that it helps remove toxins and harmful things from your body.
Charcoal is actually most commonly found in supplement form, which is known as activated charcoal. This is promoted as a supplement that binds to toxins in the body and then expels them, pulling them out of your system. Even medicinally, activated charcoal is used to treat incidents of poison, infections in your gastrointestinal tract, and cases of extreme nausea.
When it comes to face soap, there are countless brands, types, and options. There are more than a few charcoal soaps, which claim to purify and rejuvenate the skin. They also claim to help with clearing up acne. Read on to learn more about charcoal face soap and if it’s better than regular soap.
What Benefits Does Charcoal Have for Your Face?
There are a few different benefits of charcoal for your face. The main reason why people use this in their face soap (or body soap) is for its detoxifying abilities. Many people with acne-prone skin tend to gravitate towards this product because they often have other acne-fighting ingredients added in, such as salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, kaolin clay, and even fruit extracts. All of these ingredients work together to rid your skin of acne and give it a major detox.
It basically acts as a magnet for drawing out impurities or toxins. This means it draws out oil from your skin and opens up and clears out your pores. This process also helps to exfoliate the skin, leaving your face feeling smooth and clean. This can help your other skincare products absorb more easily into the skin after washing your face. Stick to charcoal face soaps or masks because these products have the most promising results amongst users.
Just so we are clear, there is no medical or scientific evidence to suggest charcoal is an effective ingredient in topical form. Many companies market it as a great ingredient for your skin because of how it works internally. However, there is nothing that suggests it works the same way externally. This does not mean you shouldn’t try it as a face soap; there are many people who swear it changed their lives and gave them perfectly clear skin.
What Types of Face Soap Are There?
There are a lot of different types of face soaps. They range from gentle and mild to exfoliating to acne-busting. Plus, there are a lot of different variations of face wash, such as micellar water, gel cleanser, milk cleansers, exfoliants, scrubs, foaming cleansers, cleansing melts, and more! Yeah, you’ve got options.
The type of face wash that’s best for you is going to depend on your skin type. There are many skin types, but the most common are sensitive, normal, dry, oily, and combination skin. Age is also going to play a factor in this, as mature skin may need a little bit more TLC to look its best. If you know your skin type, it will help you determine which products will work for your skin. This is important for all skin types, but especially those with very sensitive skin, as even the smallest irritant can cause a reaction.
Some face soaps are very strong and contain certain acids. For example, someone with normal and mature skin would likely be fine to use an exfoliating face wash that contains AHA or BHA as the active ingredient. This is an example of a strong and exfoliating face wash that would not be good for those with sensitive skin.
Everyone needs a face wash as a part of their daily routine. Whether it is charcoal soap or a gentle daily cleanser, just make sure it works for your skin and will help to remove impurities, makeup, and anything else that comes in contact with your skin on a daily basis.
Can You Use Face Soap on Your Body?
Yes, you can use face soap on your body. However, we don’t suggest doing it the other way around—you shouldn’t use body soap on your face. The skin on your body is much stronger than the skin on your face, and it can tolerate way more, including stronger fragrances, harsher ingredients, and more exfoliants. Of course, some people have sensitive skin on their bodies, but for the most part, a lot of people are able to use any body wash they want on their skin.
Typically, face wash comes in a much smaller container (and is often more expensive), so it might be wasteful to also use it on your body, which takes a lot of product to clean every inch of it. It is not really recommended you waste product to clean both your face and body, but you certainly can if that is what works for you. If you are in a pinch, you can definitely use your face wash as a body wash if you’re really desperate to get clean.
The fragrances and other ingredients included in body washes are not compatible with your delicate facial skin. Plus, most people have some sort of sensitivity on their face, whether it is to certain scents or ingredients. Even those with “normal” skin would likely have a reaction to body wash if it were used on the face. While there are many body washes that are made with all-natural ingredients, there is still a reason why a product is labeled body wash and not face wash!
If you want a good body wash, you should consider using our body buffers. Spongellé has a great range of scents for every preference, so you can choose your favorite or a variety of scents to mix things up every so often. Try Cosmic Lavender for a relaxing and detoxing scent, and for something unique and floral, try Tobacco Flower. We even have a great men’s line, with more masculine and neutral scents.
So, what makes our body buffers so great? A few things. For one, they are already infused with the perfect amount of body wash. No more wasting product when you use too much, and no more having to keep going back for more pumps of the product when you don’t use enough. Each buffer will tell you on its label how many uses it will last for, anywhere from 12-30 washes!
Another thing that makes the buffers great is the fact that they are antibacterial. They are infused with an antibacterial agent that prevents bacteria and germs from growing at all—no more worrying about mold or mildew forming on your damp bath sponge. Our body buffers are a cleaner and safer alternative, so you really can’t go wrong.
Charcoal face soap is not necessarily better than regular soap, but it is different. It really just depends on your skin type and using a product that works for you. Really, all face soaps are different from each other, and charcoal is just another type.
As we mentioned, there is no concrete evidence to suggest that charcoal works the same way externally as it does internally, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying! It shows a lot of promise, and there are many people who love using it in their face washes. It could be worth it to give charcoal face soap a try, especially if you’re dealing with acne- skin.
As for your body, you can definitely use a different product that is specific for washing your body. Spongellé makes amazing body buffers that work to exfoliate, cleanse, and hydrate the skin.
