22 Beach Essentials for Your Vacation Getaways

22 Beach Essentials for Your Vacation Getaways

Summer will be here before you know it, and it's time to start planning those beach getaways! Whether heading to the coast for a weekend or planning a longer beach vacation, packing the right essentials can make all the difference in your comfort and enjoyment.

From beach bags to clothing, accessories, and safety considerations, there are a variety of items that should be on your packing list. We are going to explore some of the most essential things to bring with you on your next beach vacation. When you have everything you need, you can make the most of your time in the sun, sand, and surf.

Beach Bag Must-Haves

When you're going to the beach, there are a few things we consider to be must-have items, no matter who you are.

1. Large Beach Bag

The beach bag is a staple for any trip to the beach. It's important to have a sturdy and spacious bag that can hold all of your essentials. You want a bag that will be easy to clean and can withstand a little sand and salt water.

2. Towel

Your beach towel is one of the first items you'll be tossing in your bag. Look for a large, absorbent towel that's good for drying off after swimming or laying out in the sun.

3. Sunscreen

One of the most important items to remember is sunscreen. Look for broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Anything less than SPF 30 won't give you enough protection. Apply your sunscreen every two hours to avoid sun damage.

4. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are also a must-have to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays. Choose a pair with polarized lenses for added glare reduction.

5. Hat or Visor

A hat or visor is another item that can help protect your face from the sun. Try a wide-brimmed hat that gives you that beachy style while keeping cool.

6. Water Bottle

It's easy to become dehydrated when you're spending all day in the sun. Drinking plenty of water will keep you feeling and looking your best. Pack a refillable water bottle that can keep your water cold all day. Plus, many beaches have water stations or water fountains where you can refill your bottle.

7. Small Bag

Pack a small bag for your valuables, such as your phone, keys, and wallet, to keep inside your beach bag. A waterproof phone case or pouch can protect your electronics from sand and water damage.

Beach Clothing

What you're wearing is just as important as what you're bringing on your beach vaca. Here are some clothing items you should pack.

8. Swimsuit

Going to the beach means packing a few swimsuits. Bring ones that make you feel confident and comfortable. Whether you prefer a one-piece or a bikini, choose a style that fits well.

9. Cover-Up

A cover-up or sarong is the perfect clothing item to throw on over your swimsuit. You can wear it when you're walking around the beach or grabbing lunch at a nearby cafe. Look for a lightweight and breathable material that you can easily take on and off.

10. Shoes

When it comes to shoes, sandals or flip-flops are always the best option for the beach. They're easy to slip on and off, and they won't get ruined if they get wet. Choose a pair with a sturdy sole for added comfort and support.

11. Light Clothing

After the beach, you may want to change into a light and breathable outfit. Cotton shorts or a sundress are great options since they won't cling to your skin. A lightweight, long-sleeved shirt can also be a good idea to protect your skin from the sun, especially if you're prone to sunburn.

12. Body Buffer

Once you get home from the beach, it will be time to get clean. Wash off all that sand with a Spongetté Florica. This unique body wash-infused buffer is good for seven washes, perfect for a beach getaway. It will gently exfoliate and nourish your skin.

Sand can take a toll on your skin, so it’s important to exfoliate to keep your skin feeling smooth. We also recommend packing our Pedi Buffers, which can help buff and moisturize rough and dry soles.

13. Lotion

Spending all day outside in the sun and the water can dry out your skin. Keep your skin hydrated and nourished on your beach vacation by applying body lotion daily. Spongellé's Beach Grass body lotion is made with shea butter, jojoba oil, safflower seed oil, and vitamin E to keep your skin moisturized for 48 hours.

Beach Accessories

If you are going to be driving, there are several beach accessories to consider adding to your packing list.

14. Beach Umbrella or Tent

Bringing a beach umbrella or tent can give you some much-needed shade. You may be planning to be outside all day, and being able to get out of the sun while still enjoying the beach will be nice. Look for an umbrella or tent that is easy to set up and sturdy, so you won't have to worry about it blowing away.

15. Beach Chairs

Beach chairs are another great item to bring with you. They provide a comfortable place to sit or lie down, and they can also be folded up and stored in your car or beach bag when not in use. Look for chairs with adjustable features and handles or backpack-style straps that make them easy to carry.

16. Cooler

A cooler filled with snacks and drinks is also a must-have for a day at the beach. Choose a cooler with insulation to keep your items cold throughout the day.

17. Beach Games

Beach games and toys can provide entertainment for the whole family. Frisbees, beach balls, and sandcastle-building kits are all great options.

Entertainment Items

There are several ways relaxing activities can keep you entertained at the beach.

18. Book

Reading an interesting book on the beach may be just what you need to unwind. Find a good book or bring your e-reader to pass the time on a lazy beach day.

19. Journal & Pen

Many people enjoy keeping a journal of their travels. Write down the highs and lows of your vacation to keep those memories for years to come.

20. Portable Speaker

A popular beach entertainment item is a portable speaker. You can listen to music or podcasts while lounging on the beach. Look for a speaker with good sound quality and long battery life.

21. Disposable Camera

While your phone's camera can take excellent pictures, there's something fun about disposable cameras. Give everyone on the trip a disposable camera to take their own photos. When you get home, have all the film developed. Everyone can gather around to look at all the pictures.

Safety Considerations

While the beach is meant to be fun and relaxing, accidents and injuries happen. You also never know what the weather and tides may be doing without staying up to date. Here are a few tips to keep everyone safe so you can have an enjoyable vacation.

22. First Aid Kit

Bringing a small first aid kit is a great idea. You never know what may happen. Someone could step on a sharp shell or trip and fall. Keeping some disinfectant, bandaids, and self-adhesive bandage tape can be a lifesaver.

Weather & Water Conditions

Before you go to the beach:

  1. Check the forecast and water conditions.
  2. Once you're at the beach, remind your family to always follow the lifeguard's instructions and swim in designated areas.
  3. Make sure no one swims alone, and always keep an eye on children who are in the water, even if they are good swimmers.
  4. Beware of rip currents that can take someone away quickly. Look for any warning flags at the beach. If you get caught in a rip current, stay calm and swim parallel to the shore until you're out of the rip current.

How To Organize Your Beach Bag

Organizing your beach bag will make finding what you need quick and stress-free. Pack your items by placing heavier items on the bottom of the bag and lighter items on top. You can separate items by categories, such as sunscreen and lotions in one compartment and snacks and entertainment in another.

Consider using small zippered pouches or plastic bags to keep smaller items organized and easy to find. For example, use a bag for your phone and keys and another for any wet items. Placing wet clothing and swimsuits in a bag will prevent your dry items from getting wet.

When you return from the beach, take a few minutes to clean out your bag and remove any sand or debris. A quick cleanout will keep your bag in good condition and make packing the next day easier.

Vacation Ready

Packaging the right essentials will make your trip comfortable, safe, and enjoyable. From hats and lotions to beach towels and portable speakers, having the right gear can make all the difference in your vacation experience. Don't forget to prioritize safety and stay hydrated while enjoying your time in the sun.

Spongellé has the products you need to stay clean, hydrated, and smelling your best all vacation long. You'll be well-prepared for your next beach getaway and will be sure to create unforgettable memories.
